Paula Patton felt 'utterly disrespected' by husband Robin Thicke's lewd MTV Video Music Awards performance with scantily-clad Miley Cyrus.
The 38-year-old actress reportedly had a huge argument with the Blurred Lines singer following the show, saying the raunchy routine - which featured the then-20-year-old twerking up against her spouse - was insulting to her, particularly as it took place in front of a huge TV audience.
According to TMZ, Paula was particularly 'enraged' because Miley improvised the performance without warning - something her husband was only too happy to go along with.

The look that says it all: Paula Patton landed at LAX on Wednesday with a smile on her face and perhaps even a look of relief just two days after confirming her separation from husband Robin Thicke
Addressing the controversial performance during an episode of Watch What Happens Live in September, the mother-of-one insisted she 'wasn't surprised at all' and that she 'didn't get the big deal'.
'Honestly, they rehearsed for three days beforehand and I don’t know how not to dance with someone having their booty in your ... all my friends do it like that! I don’t really know what the big deal is.
'I didn’t know if they thought Miley was going to sit down and play piano like Alicia Keys. Her song’s about taking Molly [ecstasy]!' she laughed.
However, behind the facade, the star was reportedly seething over the incident.
The couple - who announced their separation after eight years of marriage on Monday - began arguing constantly after the ceremony in August, with the actress particularly furious with Robin's insistence on continuing to party at clubs and frequently being pictured with various women.
At the afterparty alone, the touchy-feely star got more than a little inappropriate with 20-year-old Lana Scolaro, grabbing her bottom during a cosy photo together that soon went viral.
Although the high-school sweethearts - who are parents to three-year-old son Julian - insisted their separation was mutual, friends say Robin fought hard against the decision.
A source tells Us Weekly: 'Robin wanted to save their marriage, but it was Paula's choice and she ended it. Robin does not want this divorce.'
However, they were quick to insist that the separation didn't come as a complete shock to the singer.
'Robin was not blindsided - he knew this was coming out. But he was committed to saving their marriage. He didn't want this.'
Another source added: 'She is done with the marriage, but he was definitely fighting to stay together until the last moment. It is still cordial between them, but they are now figuring things out.'
Stepping out for the first time since news broke, Paula wore a beaming smile on her face and a look that can best be described as relief as she emerged on Wednesday, sans wedding ring.
The 38-year-old jetted into LAX clad in a comfortable yet still stylish all-black ensemble to be reunited with her son, Julian, who has been in the care of his father in Los Angeles.
With her head held high, the actress smiled for the cameras, not displaying any sign of distress over the situation.
While her high-school sweetheart cancelled three shows on his American tour in the wake of the split, the actress remained busy at work, filming her new movie, Warcraft, in Vancouver.
The star could have been dressed in character for her role in the film based on the popular video game.

She looked ready to kick butt in black high-waisted jeans, high-top sneakers and a matching top, which was unbuttoned just slightly.
An unusual black leather jacket with fur bodice design jazzed up her ensemble, while she accessorised with large round sunglasses and two silver necklaces - one of which was a pair of angel wings.
Her long dark tresses were worn straight, pulled back from her face, which was perfectly made-up with fresh, natural hues.
Clearly affected by the recent turn of events in his marriage, Robin cancelled three dates on his US tour in the wake of the news.
Travelling light: The 38-year-old carried just a small black and white patterned bag which complemented her all-black outfit, consisting of pants, high-top wedge sneakers, a tee and leather jacket with unusual fur bodice
On Wednesday, the 36-year-old reached out to his fans to let them know he appreciates them and that he shall return to his American tour on Thursday.
Robin took to his website to express his sentiments, writing: 'I want to thank everyone for the well wishes these last few days. My fans mean everything to me. I’m looking forward to getting back on out on the road and performing in Washington DC this Thursday, and the rest of the tour.
'Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!' he added.
The entertainer cancelled the third date on his North American tour after announcing on Monday that he had separated from his wife of almost nine years.
'Robin does not want this divorce': The 36-year-old is alleged to have made a last-ditch effort to salvage his marriage, flying to Canada on Friday to try to convince Paula to give it another go, with a source confirming, 'He didn't want this'
Robin failed to show up at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort in North Carolina on Tuesday night.
The venue issued a statement saying: ‘Due to unforeseen circumstances, Robin Thicke will postpone his performance at Harrah's Cherokee originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 25.
‘This concert will be rescheduled and the new date announced as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience.’
He previously cancelled gigs on Friday in Atlanta and Saturday in Orlando, issuing a statement blaming vocal issues, but instead was seen flying to Vancouver, where Paula was filming.
The singer said last week: ‘I never want to let down my fans but I have unfortunately lost my voice and cannot perform tomorrow night.’
'I want to thank everyone for the well wishes these last few days': The singer - pictured looking happy with his wife just last month, prior to the split - thanked fans for their support via his website on Wednesday after cancelling three tour dates
As his message stated, Robin is set to continue his tour on Thursday at the GMU Patriot Centre in Washington, DC.
Meanwhile, a source told TMZ that Robin is desperate to save his marriage and that while he is set to resume his tour he is planning on being on his best behaviour.
Robin is also reportedly concerned about the couple’s son, Julian, three, being raised in two separate homes.
According to TMZ.com, Robin flew to Canada on Friday in a last ditch attempt to save his relationship, after Paula allegedly told him on Friday that she wanted a divorce.
Comfort food: The doting father of three-year-old Julian ordered numerous bags of supplies to be delivered so he didn't have to face the public
'I have been looking forward to going to Universal Studios in Orlando and am very sorry that my concert there (Saturday) night now has to be canceled. I apologize to everyone.'
However, he was later seen with the couple's son Julian at Disneyland on Sunday, with sources saying his main priority was to spend time with his child in the wake of the split announcement.
On Monday the married couple of nine years - who were childhood sweethearts - announced they were separating.
'We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time,' they told People in a joint statement.
The news comes on the heels of several reports that Robin had been caught flirting behind the back of his actress wife.
Ever since his song Blurred Lines became a breakout hit in July 2013, the crooner has been caught in a series of bad situations.
Soon after Miley Cyrus twerked in his face and rubbed a foam finger on her private parts as she backed into him during the MTV Video Music Awards in August, he was caught with his hand on blonde socialite Lana Scolaro's derriere.

The inappropriate image was captured with the help of a mirror behind the married star as he smiled innocently for the camera.
To make matters worse, now the socialite has come forward to TMZ to reveal that she would like to go for a drink with the singer.
'I'd love to grab a drink with him if he asked,' she told the site.
She added: 'Robin acting like that with me makes me think there were many more. It's a shame because when you have a kid, it's upsetting.'
Also eyebrow raising was his late January flirtation with an exotic beauty inside the Parisian nightclub Club 79.
The singer was spotted embracing the looker, who had big hair and flashed a black bra. And then he was seen dirty dancing with her, grinning from ear to ear. Paula was nowhere in sight.
Though the longtime couple were seen arm-in-arm on January 25 at a Clive Davis party, just weeks later he was spotted without the Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol knockout when he went shopping with their son Julian, aged three, in West Hollywood on February 13.
Though they were man and wife for almost a decade, they met when he was only 14-years-old.
Five years after their 2005 wedding they welcomed Julian.
In 2013 the son of actor Alan Thicke said of Patton, 'We're pretty sure we've loved each other for a few lives.'
Mail Online has contacted a representative for Robin Thicke for comment.
