Residents and Soldiers Displaced As Boko Haram Storms Garkida in Adamawa State

Garkida, a community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State is currently under attack by the Boko Haram sect.

DailyPost sources say scores have been killed in the attack which started at about 5pm Nigerian time.

Many residents have gone into hiding, while whereabouts of hundreds of others is yet to be ascertained.

Soldiers deployed around the area were said to have fled as a result of the heavy artillery at the disposal of the terrorists.

DailyPost also gathered that the terrorists are having a field day in Garkida in Gombi Local Government area of the State after displacing the Military unit in the town.

According to residents of Garkida town, who are now in their hiding places begging for God’s intervention through prayers, the insurgents stormed the town around 5: pm and as usual started shooting sporadically, attacking both residents and security operatives.

It was disclosed that security operatives took to their heels after they were overwhelmed by the fire power of the insurgents.
Residents of Garkida told DailyPost on phone that the insurgents were seen within the vicinity of Zhur forest where the late Emir of Gwoza was killed.

They said the matter was reported to security operatives around the area but that they were not taken serious before the incident.

A resident Malam Ishaku Pelachiroma, told DailyPost that the insurgents reportedly stole some vehicles at Shaffa town of Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State last night and arrived at Manjakwa, where many locals claimed they saw them earlier today and reported same to security operatives.

“They never take anything serious. We have been reporting that these bad elements are around us. We saw them at Zhur, we saw them at Manjakwa, we saw them with their vehicles, with their weapons and we know they are neither security operatives nor vigilante. We know that they are Boko Haram members and we reported, but we were not taken serious.

“As we speak, they have just passed in front of my house chanting ‘Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar’, meaning God is Great”, he said.

He said though they were indoors and their houses were not touched at the time of speaking with DailyPost, but that they had received calls from some of their relatives within the town who said the insurgents had killed some of them and set houses ablaze.

Daily Post also spoke with one of the illustrious sons of Garkida town, who resides in Abuja.

He told our correspondent that, he had received the news of what is going on in Garkida.

“My mum is in Garkida, I don’t know how I am going to get her out of town. I pray that she is safe, I have been trying to call some of our youths but I could not get them on phone. I pray that, they are safe”, he said.

Another resident, who called from Abuja, said, “are you aware of what is currently going on in Garkida? Boko Haram attacked our people, they displaced the military and I am afraid; I was told that they burnt houses and killed people. My younger brother called from Yola, he said he could not get anyone to speak on phone, I am also trying but I can’t get anyone. I was told they started shooting since around 5:pm and the shooting has continued till now and there is no reinforcement from security operatives. We are trying to call Yola”.
