Joan Rivers Remains "On Life Support," Daughter Melissa Rivers Says in New Statement

Joan Rivers' daughter, Melissa Rivers, released a new statement on Tuesday, Sept. 2, updating fans and friends on her mother's condition. In it, she expresses gratitude for the outpouring of well wishes, and confirms reports that the 81-year-old comedienne is on life support at Mount Sinai Hospital.

"On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we've received. At this time, she does remain on life support," Melissa said in the statement.

She added: "I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness, and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers."
As previously reported, the Fashion Police host has been in the hospital since Thursday, Aug. 28, when she stopped breathing during an outpatient procedure on her vocal cords. Doctors placed her in a medically induced coma until Sunday, at which point they began the slow process of bringing her out of it.

According to the New York Daily News, they hope to be able to assess the potential damage to her brain on Tuesday. In the meantime, a scheduled taping of her E! show, Fashion Police, has reportedly been canceled.
