Dorothy Njemanze Campaigns For The Signing Of Disability Bill Into Law

Nollywood actress, human rights activist and philanthropist Dorothy Njemanze recently supported the move for the signing of the disability bill into law by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Dorothy who owns a Non-governmental organisation partnered with Disability Rights Advocacy Center (DRAC) on the 8th of March, 2015 as the world marked Womens day to fight for the plight of disabled women in Nigeria. She was present at the joint press conference held in Abuja with the theme, "Inclusion For Women With Disabilities In The Development Agenda."

The bill which has been brought before the president twice is yet to be signed into law thereby causing untold hardship and sexual abuse to physically challenged women in the country.

The Bill, when signed to law by Mr President will provide for the education, healthcare and the protection of social, economic, political and civil rights of the persons with disabilities. Also, the Act will provide for the establishment of National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), which will serve as the vehicle for the enforcement of all the provisions of the Disability Act. This Bill is in consonance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its optional protocol.
