Saying that it started out as a joke between him and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the big-screen action hero turned reality-TV deputy says that he would "remotely consider" making a run for governor of Arizona.
"But probably I have a lot of other responsibilities that may be more important to address," the actor, whose aforementioned show chronicled his turn as a deputy in Louisiana, told Phoenix's ABC 15. (Seagal also walked the beat in the area for Steven Seagal: Lawman—The Lost Episodes, airing this month on Reelz.)
The Under Siege star says that he thinks the No. 1 problem for the country as a whole (so maybe he's aiming for a national post?) is its "open borders"—immigration being a hot-bed issue in Arizona.
"I think that across these borders any kind of terrorism can come—and does come—and I think this is a tremendous oversight by the current administration," Seagal said. "I think that it's a crime, I think that we should really be paying attention to our borders.
"And I think Reagan once said that if you don't have security on your borders you don't have a country."
Ronald Reagan, of course, also being a B-movie star before becoming the governor of California and, ultimately, the still-revered 40th president of the United States. Arnold Schwarzeneggeralso famously served a term and a half as governor of the Golden State.
Probably running on a very different type of ticket would be Clay Aiken, who is said to be"actively considering" a run for Congress in his native North Carolina.
