LASU reopens to meet NYSC deadline

The Lagos State University Senate in a memo dated 14 February, has decided to reopen the university on 24 February.
The university was shut on 23 January after students protested over the closure by the school’s management of the online registration portal for the semester’s examination.
P.M NEWS gathered that the decision to reopen the university was reached to allow the 400 level students of the institution meet up with National Youth Service Corps Batch B mobilisation in June, 2014.
According to the memo, students’ resumption would be in 3 phases, with final year students resuming first.
The Final year students would resume on February 24, 2014. Registration portal would also be opened between 24 and 25 of February, 2014, while exams commences on March 3, 2014, to end on March 10, 2014.
According to Senate’s decision, the new students are to resume March 10, 2014, and commence registration immediately, while 100 Level to 300 level students would resume on April 1st, 2014, and start their exams on April 10, 2014.
When our correspondent contacted the Director of Information, Dr. Sola Fosudo, he confirmed the report on resumption but said there is no official statement to the rumour yet.
“From news I got from those who attended the meeting, I want to confirm the rumour as true. The Senate just finished sitting. I would get back to you on monday when I have the official statement,” Fosudo said .
The university was shut last month following students’ violence, after the university authorities bluntly refused to reopen the registration portal for the rain semester examination.
