It is sad time for the family and friends of Bamidele Aturu. According to thenet.ng, one of Nigeria’s foremost human rights lawyers, Bamidele Aturu, is dead.
Mr. Aturu, who is known to champion human rights and constitutionalism, died on Wednesday evening after a brief illness.
A friend of the deceased and leading civil society member, Olanrewaju Suraju, confirmed the death to newsmen.
Mr. Aturu died in a Lagos hospital.
Mr. Bamidele Aturu was the counsel of the Yoruba actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly called Baba Suwe at the case against him by the NDLEA. The case was won by Baba Suwe and NDLEA was ordered to compensate the actor.
Movie moments reports that Baba Suwe, who was on the location of a movie set in Ibadan, was uncontrollable when he received the sad news of his attorney’s untimely death in Lagos.
It was gathered that the actor had returned to Lagos today, Thursday, July 10, 2014 after completing his scenes in the movie to commiserate and pay his condolence to the family of the late Aturu.
The human rights lawyer and activist, Bamidele died yesterday after battling an undisclosed illness.
